Franz von Ziegesar

On Saturday, September 8th, 2007, Franz von Ziegesar died, at peace, in his sleep. Franz was a good friend and Board member, since the inception of the Foundation in 1968, who always remained active in the Foundation’s work. He was not feeling well at our June meeting and was diagnosed with bone cancer shortly thereafter. Franz was Edmund A. Stanley, Jr.’s (Robert Bowne Foundation founder) cousin and had a long career with Bowne & Co. He concluded his 41 year career with Bowne & Co., Inc. as Chairman of the Board from 1986 to 1992. He was known as a paragon of innovation for 41 years.

We all know Franz for his probing questions and many suggestions for solving the New York City’s education and afterschool dilemmas. We will miss his camaraderie and spirited interest in the Foundation's work.
